Canada's economy is set to outperform nearly all industrialized countries this year and next, the International Monetary Fund said recently. In 2010, the Canadian economy is set to post growth of 1.6%, or second-best among advanced nations after Japan's expected 1.7% gain. In contrast, the U.S. economy is seen recording meagre growth of 0.8% or half the Candian output.
Royal Bank of Canada is the first of the country's major banks to officially predict the recession will end th the third quarter, as fiscal and monetary stimuli begin to heal the economy. Canada is expected to slightly outperform the US, with the economy shrinking 2.4% in 2009 compared with a drop of 2.9% south of the border. Canada is predicted to grow 2.5% in 2010, compared with a 2.1% growth in the US.
